The colours in 2018 take us back to basics: primary colours. Put down those dreary greys and pick up the brightest, boldest, and most saturated piece of clothing you have. Rich reds, bold blues, and mellow yellows are sure to give a playful, powerful and intense feel to any look.
How to: pulling off the primary look is a statement that requires confidence. This look is best achieved by colour-blocking those primary colours monochromatically from head-to-toe, to create that vibrant, clean and modern appearance.
Care to venture with colours even further? The colour lavender will be dominating the fashion scene in 2018. The colour truly stands out, and it goes along with anything and everything. The shadiest of all though? The colour ultra-violet, as it has been announced colour of the year by Pantone.
How to: the soft lavender colour can be easily incorporated into any outfit, best combined with a pair of classic jeans, or as a stand-alone fashion statement piece. When it comes to ultra-violet, as a colour of originality and non-conformance, you only need one piece in your outfit to deliver your message!
Velvet and velour clothing gained momentum in the 1920s, then again in the 70s and 80s. And all throughout those decades -and every time in between- this fabric has always been synonymous with luxury. Fast forward to 2018, velvet still adds a certain va-va-voom to an outfit, with a twist of diversity in bold colours!
How to: add some shine and sophistication to any ensemble by adding a touch of this soft and comfortable fabric by opting for either a full-on velvet tracksuit (yes, it’s back!), a velvet jumper or cardigan, or accessorize any basic outfit with velvet shoes or a velvet bag.
Starting with the basic practical jeans for workers, to a statement of rebellion by icons such as James Dean. This wardrobe staple has been popular for a while now, so much that one piece just doesn’t do it anymore! To top off the latest double denim trend, add another layer of – you guessed it – denim!
How to: sure, blue denim is a classic, but this season don’t be afraid to step out the classic blue colour spectrum and into more unexpected colours of denim. Also, combine different weights and shapes of denim into your outfit (you’ve got three layers to choose from!).
2017 was the year graphic tees saw an uprising. This year however, an update notification is in order. The time for vintage slogans has passed, and now is the time to unleash your inner nerd! Robots, 3D patterns and basically anything tech-related is now on the radar! How to: graphic tees are a statement on their own. So, when it comes to combining a graphic t-shirt with an outfit, it’s best to dress down with casual shorts or jeans and a pair of trainers. For more of a statement, dress your shirt with a cool bomber jacket to complete that badass look!
The athleisure trend has been on the fast-track to the fashion scene for a while now. Which we are lovvving! Who can argue with that fashionable, yet practical clothing is #goals? We’re talking cycling shorts, utilitarian jumpsuits, old-school trainers and pretty much anything with plenty of pockets and zippers!
How to: inspired by 80s slouchy tracksuits, this year’s altheisure tracksuits are colourful, bedazzled and have really transformed athleisure into glamleisure. For a more sporty-chic look, mix up casualwear with performancewear by layering a neon-coloured sports-jacket on top of an athletic outfit.
Just in case you still couldn’t decide which look to go for, why not go for all of them? This year, don’t be afraid to express yourself and #treatyoself. As our mummy always said, just be yourself!
How to (be yourself): mix and match those 2018 trends smoothly by wearing a tech t-shirt with a pair of denim pants or denim jacket. Or how about an all-around lavender ski suit for a more fun functional look? Anything goes when it comes to this look!
