A melting pot of dance beats: Melt! Festival

By day, impressive steel giants gleam in front of the panoramic lake; by night, a colourfully bright sea of light disperses the darkness: Melt! Festival brings ravers and indie kids together. For three days in July, the “city of iron” becomes a scorching indie and electro party, where a dip in the Gremminer See lake is the perfect way to cool down.

While the 14 km-long lake shines along the horizon, the magnificent excavators and cranes at the former opencast Ferropolis mine lend the Melt! Arena its unique industrial flair. The right soundtrack for this backdrop: the finest electro and indie music! This year, artists such as The xx, Florence + The Machine, Tyler the creator and Jon Hopkins will guarantee crowd euphoria.
Festival goers can dance non-stop, for when the lights on the main stages go out, the music will continue at the “Sleepless Floor” – 90 hours in a row, from Friday evening till Sunday afternoon. This year, there is one more reason to party hard: Melt turns 21.

Nevertheless, those who want to enjoy forty winks can do so the traditional and convenient way in their own tent at the campsite of their choosing, or hire a tent that has already been put up for them. However, beauty sleep is guaranteed in the quieter Green Camp, and those who can’t wait to start the party can check in at the MiXery Hotel Train, where the weekend begins right at the moment of departure. The train, with party carriage, bar, and DJs doesn’t just take party people directly to Ferropolis – it is also the perfect place to sleep and chill out.
The Festival Lodges for two offer something more private: a bed, electricity, mini-fridge, and a few cold beers are included. If you choose this accommodation, you may as well not take any more luggage, because there is only one right outfit for Melt! Festival: airy! This festival has lived up to its name over the past few years and visitors have been blessed with perfect weather – and when it is 30 degrees in the shade, it is best to go dancing in a bikini or shorts.

However, apart from beach outfits, the dress code is clear: damn stylish! While you will find the classic playful festival look at Hurricane, you can safely take those flowers out of your hair and leave them at home for Melt. What you really need to pack is shorts, shirts, sneakers, and airy bomber jackets. Key pointer? Casual with an extra portion of coolness – this can be found, for guys and girls alike, in sweet pastel to luminous neon large-scale prints and slogans. Flashy nail varnish and flashy sunglasses etc. are the cherry on the cake. Here is another special tip: Perfume that works morning, noon and through the night, such as 24/7 by Bench, is ideal for three days of camping. From dusk till dawn, and vice versa.
